However, many vehicles are over 30 and even 40 years old and should be replaced with safer and more efficient tractors. The current renewal rates, which are already low, are likely to worsen if resources for the RDPs are reduced.
Unacma ROC, a network of certified workshops
At EIMA International, the European Network of Certified Workshops for agricultural machinery comes alive. The associations of contractors, farmers and manufacturers, will soon sign the memorandum of understanding to "certify" on the market the level of excellence and technical/operational capacity of the structures belonging to the Network.

Safety in the fields: 200 fatal accidents every year in Italy
Every year in Italy there are 200 fatal accidents among farmers, many of them caused by a tractor overturning. This tragedy could be significantly reduced, not only by relying on European and national incentives for the purchase of latest generation agricultural machinery equipped with the most advanced safety systems, but also by investing in training. The issue is at the centre of the awareness campaign launched by FederUnacoma at EIMA, the international exhibition of agricultural machinery.

This year, the 43rd edition of EIMA, the world exhibition of agricultural machinery, opened in the BolognaFiere pavilions with a large number of visitors. The global problem of water resources and technologies for agriculture 4.0 were just some of the topics addressed during the first day of the event, inaugurated in the presence, among others, of the undersecretaries of Agriculture Franco Manzato, of Justice Jacopo Morrone, and the president of the Emilia Romagna Region Stefano Bonaccini.
The "millennials" dominate the Italian agriculture 4.0 scene
The Italian farmer 4.0 is young, a school or university graduate, lives and works in Northern Italy and runs a farm with a cultivable surface of more than 50 hectares. At EIMA, the international exhibition of agricultural machinery in Bologna, a research by Nomisma promoted by Informatore Agrario takes stock of the digital evolution of agriculture. The survey involved about a thousand entrepreneurs. 18% use driver-assistance or semi-automatic tractors.

Tractors: over 9 thousand thefts in Italy last year
The number of agricultural machinery thefts (which stood at 9,114 in 2017) decreases, but the value of the stolen vehicles increases. Puglia and Sicily are the regions most affected by this phenomenon, which, according to the Unacma association of retailers, is caused by criminal organizations that sell machines especially in the Balkan and Caucasian countries.
Water alarm: agriculture absorbs almost 70% of the world's resources
It is the most water-hungry production sector, with an average water withdrawal that is 69% of the world's total. But new technologies, including sensors, drones and satellites, can lead to a 30% water savings to cope with the increase in population. Today at EIMA, the international exhibition of agricultural machinery, water scarcity and the new smart irrigation systems are the focus of discussion between experts in the sector.
Tractors: world market in flux
Significant growth in the US and India, declines in the rest of the world. Tractors: drop in world demand and "made in Italy" sales

As a result, Italian exports, which are traditionally strong in this machinery sector, have dropped. As a consequence, also national production is dropping. Turnover is stable in the gardening sector and components are showing sound 19% growth to offset the tread for tractors, other machinery and implements to lead to an outlook of production valued at € 11 billion by the close of the year, in line with the 2017 levels.
Tractor markets: uneven global scenario
Data on the sales of tractors covering the first nine months of the year pursued a positive trend in the United States and India and showed substantial downturns China and Europe. The decline in cereal grains and commodity prices of agricultural food crops weighed in on agricultural enterprises incomes while policy factors, especially custom duties, put the breaks on trade and thus on all the economies across the sector.
